An original artwork from the series Coloured Bows (2018) by Spanish artist Mónica Ajenjo. The series iconises a traditional object of the Spanish imaginary: gift bows. Mónica's inspiration draws from the iconic Pop Art movement of the 60s which takes an everyday object and turns it into an easily-reproduced artwork ready for mass consumption. Instead, Coloured Bows transforms an everyday object into a unique and unrepeatable piece by using a Renaissance pictorial technique impossible to mass produce. Following the XV Century tradition of the altarpiece, each is painted on a hand-crafted wood base and treated with colour coordinated fluoride paint on the back. This vivid reverse coating mirrors the colours of the artwork, reflecting the light and enhancing its attractive brightness.
