St. Joan of Arc was born to a peasant family in Northern France in 1412. During the Hundred Years’ War, she received visions from the archangel Michael as well as other saints instructing her to support King Charles VII and fight to recover France. She aided in swiftly bringing victory to the crown and paved the way for the final French Victory. She was burned at the stake at age nineteen and in 1456, after a papal inquest, she was declared innocent and a martyr of the faith. St. Joan of Arc was canonized in 1920 and is a patron saint of France.
